Fairtrade Celebration
This afternoon Mrs Walker and Miss Whiteley accompanied 4 children, Ayesh, Nishta, Harvey and Daniel to Leeds Civic Hall. The children had been invited to participate in the annual Fairtrade Celebration organised by Fairtrade Leeds and Leeds DEC.
Upon arrival the group were able to select two workshops each that they wanted to be involved in. The girls chose a bunting activity and the Chocolate game while the boys opted for Football Fever and the Buzzing Honey workshop.
The afternoon was spent listening to speakers watching Fairtrade films and participating in the workshops.
We also learnt that you can also get Fairtrade footballs and Daniel was presented with a football from company Bala on behalf of school.
The Beehive Assembly
This morning, Roger Robertson from local business The Beehive led an assembly. He talked to the children about what Fairtrade means, how we can help and used bananas as an example.
Roger left with Mirs Walker and Miss Whiteley a selection of Fairtrade products (chocolate, tea, coffee, biscuits, friendship bands, pens and many more items) these will be on sale after school on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Fairtrade Fortnight Assembly
Fairtrade Fortnight is almost here!
To start off our celebrations and to help raise awareness of all things Fairtrade, local business, The Beehive will be visiting school and leading an assembly on Monday 29th February.
The Beehive aims to promote Fairtrade by providing information and selling Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade Cafe and Cake Competition
Todays Fairtrade Cafe was a great Success! The class cake entries were of a very high standard. A huge thank you to Mrs Moore, who had the very difficult task of judging the competition. She eventually chose;
3rd – Mrs Willis’s class with Crumbly Banana Squares.
2nd – Mr Lupton’s class with Chocolate Flapjacks.
1st – Mrs Girt’s class with Beetroot and Chocolate Brownies.
The winners of the competition open to everyone are;
3rd – Mya Fearon year 4.
2nd – Zaynab Makwinja
1st – Mrs Chambers
The remaining cakes will be sold at break time on Monday for 50p each!
2015 Fairtrade Cafe!
Don’t miss our Fairtrade Cafe, in the school hall, on Friday 6th March from 3pm until 4pm. Join us for Fairtrade coffee or tea and cakes baked using Fairtrade ingredients.
Each class will be entering their Fairtrade cake for judging. The winning class will receive Fairtrade chocolate for their class to share!
Are you a keen or talented baker? Enter your Fairtrade cake by 12 noon on Friday to be judged by Mrs Moore, our school cook.
Fairtrade Workshops
As part of our Fairtrade fortnight, four classes have participated in workshops today.
Year 5 took part in a Combatting Global Change workshop while year 3 learnt what it is like to be a cocoa farmer.
Both workshops were organised and led by Leeds DEC.

Fairtrade Ceremony
This afternoon the Fairtrade Ambassadors, Charlotte, Abigail, Daniel and Josiah attended the Fairtrade Ceremony held at Leeds Civic Hall.
The ambassadors took part in workshops, chocolate tasting and accepted a Global Charter certificate on behalf of the school.
Leeds Fairtrade Birthday Celebrations!
We were lucky to be invited to Leeds Civic Hall for the 10 year celebration of Leeds becoming a Fairtrade City.
We inspected the cake competition entries with the Lord Mayor and had a photo opportunity with M.P. Hilary Benn.
Oh, and I nearly forgot, we had to eat lots of Fairtrade cake. Well it would have been rude to say no when people had put in all that effort! Thank you for a fantastic afternoon!
